2024 Keynote

Matthew J Scott HeadshotHear from Matthew J. Scott, Regional Education Administrator with the Federal Bureau of Prisons, about his work with adults in custody and the success he has seen with adults in custody as they receive education, job training, and job placement before their release, so they are positioned for success. Learn what re-entry looks like, how he has partnered with post-secondary institutions, employers, and workforce training organizations to create sustainable pathways to meet individual goals and address talent pipeline issues, and what steps you can take, no matter where you are, to support this often-overlooked population. Matthew’s work demonstrates the importance of cross-system coordination and regional approaches to working adult learner success.

 

 

About the Keynote Speaker

Matthew Scott oversees the development, implementation, organization, administration, and evaluation of educational, vocational, recreational, and reentry programs for 28,000 offenders at twenty-two institutions within the Federal Bureau of Prisons’ (FBOP) Southeast Region. 

Mr. Scott began his FBOP career in 2009 as a Correctional Officer at the United States Penitentiary (USP) in Florence, CO. In 2011, Mr. Scott transferred to the Metropolitan Detention Center in Los Angeles, CA. Following his time in Los Angeles, Mr. Scott left the FBOP to further his education. After earning his teaching credentials, Mr. Scott taught social studies at a Title I school for at-risk boys in Denver, Colorado. In 2015, Mr. Scott returned to the FBOP as a Teacher at the Federal Correctional Complex in Coleman, FL. In 2019, Mr. Scott was promoted to Supervisor of Education at the Federal Correctional Institution in Edgefield, South Carolina. In 2021, Mr. Scott transferred to USP Leavenworth, KS. Mr. Scott assumed his current position as a Regional Education Administrator in January 2023. Mr. Scott has a Bachelor of Arts degree from Colorado State University and a post-secondary education teacher license with the Colorado Department of Education. Mr. Scott is a veteran of the United States Navy.
